Men Who Stare At Goats Trailer Online

Jon Ronson's madder-than-fiction odyssey with the US Military, The Men Who Stare At Goats, is almost with us in movie form, starring Ewan McGregor, George Clooney, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey. Have a chuckle at this trailer over on Apple.

Ronson's book accompanied the Channel 4 series Crazy Rulers of the World, revealing that 30 years' worth of US paranormal military research have resulted in playing the Barney theme to prisoners of the War on Terror as a psychological interrogation technique. Well, we'd certainly talk.

The movie, which is looking awesome, gives us McGregor in the Ronson role (renamed Bob Wilton and saddled with an American accent), and a twitchy Clooney as Lyn Cassidy; a reactivated psychic spy and "Jedi warrior". And yes, we do see him staring at goats, in an attempt to kill them with the power of his mind.

Jeff Bridges plays Bill Django, the hippyish founder of the Psychic Soldier programme designed to create "warrior monks who can pass through walls and see into the future". And Spacey is Larry Hooper, an alumnus of the programme who now runs a military detention centre in Iraq.

We're intrigued about the part where McGregor is being strangled by a guy with a Dr Strangelove arm. All will be explained on January 22nd.

Yes, that's right: they're trying to exorcise the big machine without either an old priest or a young priest. If it starts to projectile vomit green machine oil, run for your lives.

Exclusive: New 2012 Banners

Exclusive: New 2012 Banners
See the world ending in glorious detail

Exclusive: New 2012 Banners

As of today, there’s 1211 days to go until the world ends, according to ancient Mayan predictions, on December 21st, 2012. Which is a sobering thought.

But why not take your mind off the impending apocalypse by feasting your eyes on these lovely in-cinema banners for Roland Emmerich’s forthcoming disaster epic, 2012, which details what happens when the world ends, according to ancient Mayan predictions, on December 21st, 2012… oh.

Still, whether we’re all headed for the big movie website in the sky or not, there’s no doubt that these new pieces of artwork, given to us by those lovely people at Columbia Pictures, are eye-catching in the best possible way.

The trio of banners, coming soon to a cinema near you, show various landmarks of the world being utterly pummelled by Mother Nature. In the first, the iconic Christ The Redeemer statue, which towers above Rio de Janeiro, is in the middle of collapse, and about to ruin a nice day out for thousands of tourists.

The second is a snapshot of the by-now infamous sequence shown in the movie’s trailer, where the supercarrier, the USS John F. Kennedy, is about to demolish the White House in Washington D.C., having been carried there on the mother of all tsunamis. (And if you’re wondering about the size of the ship compared to the White House, that’s pretty accurate – the John F. Kennedy is about 1,000 feet long, compared to the White House’s paltry 168ft length)

And the third shot is bad news for anybody living in LA – because it shows the city on the verge of total destruction, as the San Andreas Fault rips a ginormous seam right down the middle of the sprawling mass.

Visually, it’s all stunning stuff, and reinforces the notion that, when Emmerich’s John Cusack-starring movie hits on, aptly, Friday 13 November, that it’s going to be one heck of a feast for the eyeballs. Just remember to bring a survival kit to the cinema with you – well, you never know…

Will it be Grumpy Old Anchormen?

Exclusive: Judd Apatow Talks Anchorman 2

Judd Apatow breezed into London this week like a bearded typhoon, and naturally enough we went along and had a chat with him. But when we weren’t talking about his new movie, the excellent Funny People, or asking him about the biggest dog he’d ever seen, we decided to press him, Paxman-style, on the prospect of an Anchorman 2.

Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy, as you all know, is an Empire favourite, and one of the funniest films ever made. Will Ferrell, who plays Burgundy, has been talking about doing a sequel with his writing/directing partner, Adam McKay, for a while now, but nothing concrete appears to have emerged so far.

So, who better to ask for the skinny on the return of Ron, Brick Tamland, Brian Fantana and Champ Kind than Apatow, who produced the 2004 classic? And what he had to say will shock you to the very core of your being. Probably. OK, it won’t. But you can’t blame us for trying.

“They’re making a movie now, Will and Adam,” said Apatow, referring to the duo’s cop comedy, The Other Guys. “But I guess it’s a little bit more a possibility than it was a year ago, when it wasn’t being discussed at all.”

Interesting, interesting… and so, what have those discussions yielded, Mr. Apatow? “When we made Anchorman, Adam and Will had a lot of ideas about what the sequel would be – they’d always laugh about where they’d take the characters.”

And where that is, as it happens, is in a particularly intriguing direction. “The great thing is, Will can be any age and play that character. Those anchormen sometimes have their jobs until they’re 75 years old. So we would always laugh that this movie could work if everybody’s really elderly.”

Ron as an OAP? Brian Fantana adding a catheter to the winning team of The Octagon, James Westfall and Dr. Kenneth Noisewater? Brick Tamland with a severe case of arthritic hip? This could take us into Grumpy Old Anchormen territory… but while we’d love to see the Channel 4 News Team back on the big screen in any incarnation, we’d rather not wait another four decades for it to happen.

Fear not, though – Apatow feels your pain. “I hope we do it before that,” he laughed. Amen to that, sir. Amen to that.

Writers Hired For Hancock 2

Will Smith set to fly again

Writers Hired For Hancock 2

"We don't feel a burning imperative to go back into it," said Hancock director Peter Berg a few days ago. Columbia Pictures feels differently however (maybe their imperative is that $624m gross), and The Hollywood Reporter has news this morning that writers are banging out a sequel for Will Smith's shabby superhero as we speak.

The original producing team are all expected to be back, but the new writers are Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara. Fierro has written for The Shield, 24 and Dexter while Mazzara's CV includes Nash Bridges and the TV spinoff of Crash (the Paul Haggis film, not the Cronenberg one).

No plot details yet, other than that the projected follow-up would "build on the world hinted at in the first movie". Does that mean a prequel, set at some time in the past, pre Hancock's amnesia, when there are more superhumans around? Or are we looking at a clunky Highlander-style revelation that Hancock wasn't the last one after all?

There are plenty of questions about the superhumans' origins that further films could explore, but the original's quirkiest tweak to a potentially formulaic idea was Jason Bateman's PR advisor. Will there be further stories for Bateman, or is his part in the saga done with? You'll know as soon as we do.

Elizabeth Banks Fancies Some Haggis

The lovely, charming, and talented Elizabeth Banks is in talks to star in Paul Haggis’ latest flick, the suspense thriller, The Next Three Days.

Based on the recent French hit, Pour Elle, Banks – who’s increasingly dipping into serious roles after a string of comedic movies made her name - would play Laura, a woman who’s jailed for a murder she didn’t commit (or did she? Etc. etc.). Russell Crowe has already signed on to play the husband who won’t, in the grandest tradition of Reeves & Mortimer, let it lie, and so begins his own investigation.

Sounds like it could be a pretty interesting thriller, and it certainly gives Haggis a chance to stretch as a director after the dramas, Crash and In The Valley Of Elah. Of course, this all means that we’re still no closer to a Due South movie, but we can still dream, right?

Filming on the Lionsgate flick is scheduled to begin next month.

WaiverWire.com

WaiverWire.com

I’m getting excited to see my favorite players play for the 2009 NFL Season. In my previous post I talked about Adrian Peterson of Minnesota Vikings. As I’ve said, he’s a great player. He is so passionate about the game and has great ability and potential. He has aggressive running style and his performance is unquestionable. I’ve read a lot of good reports about him and I’m excited to see his game performance this year. I also would like to see how Michael Turner of Atlanta Falcons plays on the field. His performance last year gave fantasy football fans great expectations on what he can do for this year’s NFL season. With his amazing performance last year, I believe he will also be performing great this year. I also like to watch Matt Forte of Chicago Bears. He is also a great player and he has the great ability to score touchdown.

We are excited at my house that football season is starting. We recently bought a big screen and were awed when we watched a preseason game on it on Sunday. It’s amazing what a little HD does for your television watching. With that being said, some of my fantasy football drafts have already started. I use to always pick Brett Favre (I am from Green Bay, and well, he’s the best quarterback ever). After that choice, I pretty much follow the newspaper and ESPN (since the hubby watches it every day). This year, however, I’ve come across WaiverWire which looks like it will save me a ton of time. I’ve got till the week before regular season to get my draft picks ready. If you sign up for the FREE Stimulus Package (which is what I did), you’ll get:

  • Free Fantasy Leaders
  • Free Player Rankings
  • Free Draft Cheat Sheets
  • Free Real Time Player News (RotoWire & TSN)
  • Free NFL Injury Reports

  • Free Weekly Waiver Wire Pickups
  • Free Spread & Over/Under Picks of the Week
  • Free Game Day Decisions
  • Free Coaching Changes
  • Free Latest NFL Headlines
  • Free NFL Players of the Week
  • Free Custom Scoring Based on Your Point System
  • Free RED ZONE stats
  • Free Receiver Targets
  • Free Live Game day Stat Leaders
  • Free Situational and Split Stats
  • Upload your Roster for Free Detailed Analysis

They also have their own social network on the site where you can utilize a:

  • Free Profile Page
  • Free Weekly Guru Challenge
  • Free access to the WaiverWire Fantasy Sports Community FORUM
  • Fantasy Social network – Meet, Share, Learn and…Talk Smack!

Seriously, what more could you ask for? I personally love the leaders and the rankings which should really help me. The 100 local papers also helps, because my local paper only covers so much. You are able to get a much better feel for the non-big name players. This is free, so if you have a draft coming up, make sure you check it out like I did! You won’t be sorry!

More Torsos From Twilight 2 Teaser 2

Having witnessed a special preview of footage from the upcoming Twilight Saga: New Moon at this weekend's Movie Con, we went away with one thing in mind: Chris Weitz loves abs.

And if the two clips featuring the insanely buff Jac-abs Black (Taylor 'sweet 16' Lautner) stripping off and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson, R-Patz, or Cedric Diggory-giggedy-giggedy as the legend may also be known) getting nekked didn't prove that point sufficiently, this brand new "Meet Jacob Black" trailer will certainly hammer it home. Here, we get to see a total of six bare bodies, plenty of honed arms in vests and Jacob modelling a strangely alluring clingy top.

Check out the second Twilight Saga: New Moon teaser here.

This film may not be to everyone's tastes, but it will definitely cater to it's core market. Girls, get screaming now. Swoon!

Bruce Willis Is An Expendable

If The Expendables' on-set testosterometer hadn't already exploded, news that Bruce Willis has joined the Most Awesome Action Cast Ever Assembled in Sylvester Stallone's actioner should do the trick.

While he couldn't confirm exactly what kind of carnage his character would dishing out, Willis did suggest to MTV Movie Blogs that he would be sharing a scene with Sly and The Guvernator. “That’s the plan.” Yes, that's McClane, Rambo and Dutch joining forces, and officially turning The Expendables into Planet Hollywood: The Movie.

Alongside the titanic trio, The Expendables will feature the shooting, punching and kicking skills of Jason Statham, Jet Li, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, extreme fighter Randy Couture, Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts, who join forces to take down a corrupt Latin dictator.

Willis' is yet another name scratched off our Expendables wish-list, leaving only Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, The Equaliser, Honey Monster, and Wolf from Gladiators for the full house.

Stallone is currently wrapping the actioner after a shoot that's taken in Louisiana, Brazil, and probably the odd gym along the way.

Exclusive: Up In The Air Poster

George Clooney's always worth watching, and so far director Jason Reitman hasn't set a foot wrong, with Thank You For Smoking and Juno under his belt. So the prospect of a film from both of them - say, one called Up In The Air - is a positively tasty one, and we're delighted to bring you the new poster for the film.

Clooney stars as a corporate downsizing expert (booo! Hissss!) who travels all over the US in pursuit of more opportunities to fire people. As he approaches the 10million* frequent flyer miles milestone and meets the frequent-flying woman of his dreams (Farmiga), his cherished lifestyle is threatened as his company wants to move him to headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska.

We have a feeling that this will share more creative DNA with Thank You For Smoking than Juno, but in any case it sounds like an opportunity for sly Clooney comedy, sort of Michael Clayton meets Intolerable Cruelty.

*It's one million in the Walter Kim novel on which this is based, so we're not sure this is right; we'll try to find out.

James McAvoy Says 'I'm With Cancer'

James McAvoy Says 'I'm With Cancer'

James McAvoy has agreed to star in a film that will likely be called I’m With Cancer, the Seth Rogen-produced comedy based on the true-life experiences of a Hollywood screenwriter who successfully battled the disease.

Will Reiser contracted cancer when he was 25, and fought the evil bastard over the next few years. He turned his experiences into a best-selling book, and has now written the screenplay for a comedy that dares to laugh in the face of one of the great taboo subjects. And more power to him, we say.

This project had actually been announced a while ago, but all had seemed to go quiet on the Western front. McAvoy’s casting as a character based on, but not specificially called, Will Reiser – his first commitment to a major project since last year’s Wanted, and the upcoming sequel – confirms that it’s very much a go, with cameras set to roll next January.

Rogen, who will also co-star, will produce with his writing partner, Evan Goldberg, inbetween punching and kicking things as The Green Hornet. Nicole Holofcener, director of Friends With Money and Lovely & Amazing, will direct. Mandate Pictures will sign the cheques.

Thoughts, readers? Is cancer an insidious illness that should only be discussed in whispered, solemn tones? Or is it time to laugh our asses off at it?

Brad Pitt Is Moriarty?

Brad Pitt Is Moriarty?
Rumoured role in Sherlock Holmes

Brad Pitt Is Moriarty?

This one's to be filed firmly under "rumour" for the time being, since it comes from a tabloid, but it's being reported that Brad Pitt is currently shooting a small role as Moriarty for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes.

The inclusion of Professor Moriarty would be no great surprise: he's the most famous bad guy that Holmes ever faced, and when we went along to the start of shooting press conference and asked if the Professor was in it, everyone refused to answer but looked extraordinarily shifty.

According to The Mirror, Ritchie was ordered to add Moriarty by Warner Bros. bosses, and called his aul' Snatch mucker Brad Pitt to step in and get him out of difficulties. The paper claims that Pitt is now shooting at Cliveden House and in London on the film, and since we know that Robert Downey Jr.'s in town that would not seem impossible.

Frankly, if this is true it's an intriguing move: Pitt doesn't play bad guys often enough and he'd seem a good fit to play opposite Robert Downey Jr.'s more muscular-than-usual Holmes. But we wait to hear more...

Whatever the reason,
