Murphy might not return…
According to Moviehole, which followed up a Financial Times report by talking to source at what passes for MGM these days (aka Leo The Lion’s Bargain Fire Sale And Share Wrangling Emporium), the attempt to bring reboot RoboCop’s cinematic mainframe with Darren Aronofsky at the helm has met the same fate as poor old officer Alex J Murphy. That is to say, it’s been blasted with a variety of weapons, lost a hand in a spray of blood and been finished off with a quick bullet to the head. It’s good night, sweet prince.
"Gone. Kaput. Cancelled. It was one of the first casualties", says the source. “Darren has lost interest anyway, I believe. Think we're all just going to have to be happy with the three RoboCop movies that are out there". Well, we’ll be happy with the first one, at least, if that’s okay with you. And not forgetting the miniseries! Or the cartoon show! Or… Wait. Yeah, let’s forget those too. Now, of course, we’re just waiting for MGM’s corporate bods to issue a release stating that RoboCop will indeed return, it’ll just take a little bit more time to get some money together. Plus a new director. And anyone else who attempts to speculate on the project’s future will be destined to meet ED-209 in a darkened hallway at the MGM tower in LA. Hint: try to reach the stairs.
