Official Avengers Teaser Hits The Web

Official Avengers Teaser Hits The Web
Warning: here be spoilers (and Avengers)

Given that our Captain America review mentioned (SPOILER!) that Cap gets frozen at the end, may we casually inform you that the following news story contains spoilers.

The reason why we sound the spoiler horn is because a snippet of the very brief post-feature Avengers teaser at the end of Captain America, showing all of the team at Avengers HQ looking badass, has been released online... but it also includes the very, very end of Captain America: The First Avenger, where Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury meets the defrosted Cap in the middle of Times Square.

So to see both bits the very end of Cap and The Avengers teaser click play below, but remember: you have been warned, ye who have not seen Captain America: The First Avenger yet.

Also, as it has moments showing all The Avengers, we've grabbed the pictures from the trailer and turned them into a miniature galllery for you below, featuring Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans (in a new Cap outfit), Mark Ruffalo (in non-Hulk form), Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth. You know, because we're nice like that.

The Avengers will be avenging something or other come May 14, 2012.

Red Tails Trailer Lands

Red Tails Trailer Lands
'To the last man... We fight!'

Source: Yahoo

The George Lucas-produced World War Two aerial combat pic Red Tails feels like it’s been on the way since shortly after the end of the war itself, but the first trailer has finally arrived and from the looks of the air action alone, it could really be something. Take a gander at the promo below.

With Anthony Hemingway calling the shots, Red Tails focuses on the Tuskegee Airmen (AKA the 322nd Fighter Group), who were the first African American pilots to complete training for an air force that was still bogged down in racist attitudes. Despite the fact that America’s bombers were being shot from the sky, they were denied the chance to fight until they were desperately needed. And fight they did!

Tails boasts a cast that includes Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston (cast long before he was offered every role going) Michael B Jordan, Andre Royo, Ne-Yo, Method Man, David Oyelowo and Cuba Gooding Jr, who seems to flourish in the World War Two atmosphere (as Team America taught us, he was way better than Ben Affleck in Pearl Harbor).

While a few elements here seem like typical World War Two clichés (the speeches, the soaring music), there’s no denying that the combat shots are stunning. Now we’re glad they took their time…

The trailer announces a US release of January 20 next year and while there’s no official UK date set yet, we’re hopeful we won’t have to wait too long after that to have the movie fly over here.

Ides Of March Trailer Wants Your Vote

Ides Of March Trailer Wants Your Vote
Politics vs morality. Guess the winner!

Source: Yahoo

Yesterday brought some new pics of George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman and the rest of the cast in Clooney’s latest directorial gig, political thriller The Ides of March. If you were wondering when you’d see them all walk and talk, you need wonder no more as the trailer has arrived and can be watched below.

With just a hint of Primary Colors about it, March adapts Beau Willimon’s play Farragut North and finds Gosling as Stephen Myers, a young spokesman working on a presidential campaign for Governor Morris (Clooney) who has his sense of morality and ethics severely challenged.

As the race heats up, Myers finds himself falling prey to doubts and problems as he discovers that his boss might not be as well-intentioned as he thought when he joined the campaign.

The poster for the movie has also arrived online, and is here for your staring pleasure.

To see the full-size poster at Yahoo, click on the image above.

With Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood, Paul Giamatti and Max Minghella also among the cast, The Ides of March will be out on October 28.

Rosario Dawson Falls Into Trance

Vincent Cassel also aboard

Rosario Dawson Falls Into Trance

The cast of Danny Boyle’s next film, Trance, just keeps getting better and better. The latest names poised to sign on? Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel.

There have been a few casting switcheroos on this one, mostly notably the apparent loss of Michael Fassbender. And there’s still no confirmed word on whether the likes of Colin Firth will be aboard when the cameras crank this autumn.

But what we do know right now is that James McAvoy will play an employee of an art auction house who acts as the inside man during a heist. The crime goes badly wrong and McAvoy ends up with amnesia about where the loot is being hidden. That leads his much more dangerous accomplice (Cassel) to try to crack the secrets out of him using a hypnotist.

Dawson, meanwhile, has signed up for the main female character, a woman who develops an odd relationship with both of them. Feeling like a return to Boyle’s Shallow Grave/Trainspotting roots, Trance will be shot with a thrifty budget, before the footage is shelved as the director concentrates on his London Olympic opening ceremony duties. Once those are complete, he’ll pick Trance back up again and start editing in August 2012 ready for a March 2013 release.

Abrams Finally In Talks For Star Trek 2

But don't expect it next summer...

Abrams Finally In Talks For Star Trek 2

This will hardly come as a surprise to most of us – since we’ve been assuming for ages that the siren lure of the captain’s director’s chair would be too great for him to ignore - but while he hasn’t formally committed, it’s now all but certain that JJ Abrams will be directing Star Trek 2.

And, just as predictably, Deadline’s report confirms all the rumours and speculation that the long development process combined with Abrams’ indecision about whether he really would take the job (he was, after all, a little busy making Super 8 and producing a thousand different other scripts, movies and TV shows) means that Paramount has decided to shove the Trek sequel from its original June 2012 release berth and offer the date instead to what is now apparently called G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

As to where the Enterprise and her crew will find a scheduling dock, that’s anyone’s guess. Right now it seems that shooting will kick off in January next year, with the aim of trying to either get it into late 2012 or summer 2013.

The studio has now picked up the cast’s contracts, which means that the likes of Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Zoe Saldana will all be reporting for duty whenever this thing actually launches into warp speed.

Trek writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and new recruit Damon Lindelof have been hard at work cranking out script drafts, so assuming he signs on the dotted, Abrams will need to get to approving the thing and making some decisions…

New Change-Up Red Band Trailer Lands

New Change-Up Red Band Trailer Lands
Warning: naughty jokes within

Source: Break

While many of you might still need some convincing that the world truly needs another body swap comedy, at least The Change-up has some solid names both behind and in front of the camera, with Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman starring. As the release date rushes ever close, another Red Band trailer (i.e. with naughty words and rude jokes – so don’t show it to granny) has arrived online and can be watched below.

The film finds Bateman as Dave, a settled, happily married but harried father of two who is envious of his pal Mitch’s (Reynolds) playboy life. But guess what! Turns out Mitch is actually looking to settle down. One night, the pair are peeing in a fountain after a few drinks and they make a wish that they could swap lives. Because you couldn’t have a film of this type if it didn’t happen, presto change-o!

Hopefully this one will prove to be a winner, with this latest promo containing a few solid chuckles. And with Reynolds and Bateman leading a cast that also includes Olivia Wilde, Leslie Mann and Alan Arkin plus Wedding Crashers man David Dobkin directing a script from Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, there are reasons to be hopeful…

The Change-Up will find its way into our cinemas on August 5.

Robert Rodriguez does Frank Frazetta

Source: Entertainment Weekly

Robert Rodriguez is generally a solid draw at Comic-Con, and this year’s event saw him present a packed panel loaded with news on his future projects. Among them was his plan to open a museum dedicated to pulp artist Frank Frazetta, and, for those who don’t have the wherewithal to travel to Austin, Texas to see it, an idea for a series of films based on Frazetta’s iconic artwork. Now some of the concept art for the first movie – Fire and Ice – is online and can be gawped at below.

Fire And Ice Concept Art

The pics were knocked up by the writer/director and his team at Quick Draw Entertainment and give you some idea of what to expect from the movie. Particularly as Rodriguez is planning to go all Sin City on the artwork and story, which was originally brought to the screen in animated form back in 1983… “I want it to look like you just stepped into one of his paintings, where you get to see his world, and how he saw people, anatomy, and composition and colour,” Rodriguez tells Entertainment Weekly. “It will feel like it’s real, but not real. It’ll be his reality. He saw things differently. He painted from his imagination. He didn’t take a photograph and just paint it.”

So aside from busty warrior ladies, muscled men and big beasties, what can we expect in terms of the plot? Well, EW got their hands on the synopsis too: “From his stronghold in Ice Peak, the evil Nekron sends forth a wave of deadly glaciers, forcing humanity to retreat to Fire Keep, a kingdom ruled by a generous king. When King Jarol’s daughter Teegra is kidnapped, young warrior Larn teams with the mysterious and legendary Dark Wolf, to rescue the princess and the realm from Nekron’s evil sorcery.” Nekron. You just know he’s a baddie, don’t you? It would have been so different if his parents (or whatever hell demon birthed him) had called him Ned.

Despite juggling several projects, Rodriguez aims to start casting and production on the film next year. For more, head to EW.

Cast Line Up For 21 And Over

New comedy from Hangover writers
Source: Coming Soon

Cast Line Up For 21 And Over

They weren't involved with The Hangover Part II, but original Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore aren't done yet with buddy comedies based around nights of drinking gone wrong. The pair are about to direct their own screenplay for 21 And Over, and a young cast are currently queueing with their IDs.

Miles Teller will be dancing over from the Footloose remake, with Twilight's Justin Chon, Taking Woodstock's Skylar Astin, and Sarah Wright from The House Bunny all along for the alocoholic shenanigans.

The premise this time sees a sober student the night before an important interview for medical school, persuaded into just one drink by his high-school buddies. These things proceding as they do, that single beer "spirals into a wild epic misadventure of debauchery and mayhem that none of them will ever forget."

Shooting's due to start inWashington in August, with a release planned for next year. In the meantime, there's the imminent The Change Up, which you can read about elsewhere this morning. Lucas and Moore don't just do boozing; they do body-swapping too!

Exclusive: New Arrietty Clip

Exclusive: New Arrietty Clip
Plus new pics from Ghibli's latest gem

As everyone knows, Studio Ghibli is Japan's magic kingdom, a powerhouse that's consistently wowed Japanese and Western audiences alike with its stunning, heartfelt visions. Nothing brings back memories of childhood faster than a Ghibli movie and Arrietty possibly more than most. Its source material - Mary Norton's The Borrowers - has been a childhood favourite for generations.

Arrietty may not be quite as cheese-dreamy as Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away but, judging by this new clip, it should be just as captivating for human beans of all ages.

Unusually, Ghibli has gone to the trouble of using two English-language voicecasts. The UK and Irish version here features the talents of Saoirse Ronan as Arrietty herself, the tiny Borrower, with Mark Strong voicing Pod, a role played by Ian Holm in the '90s BBC version.

Olivia Coleman, Phyllida Law and Geraldine McEwan also lend their voices to the story of a tiny young girl's friendship with the giant boy who's newly arrived in the household above the Borrower burrow. It's directed by long-time Ghibli animator Hiromasa Yonebayashi. Click below for a closer look at some beautiful stills from the film and an exclusive look at early Arrietty artwork.

Arrietty is out in the UK on July 29.

Battleship Trailer Sails In

Battleship Trailer Sails In
'Prepare to fire!'

Source: Yahoo

Altogether now: “You haff sunk my battleship!” No, it’s not the trailer for a new Bill and Ted outing (though that’s still on the way if Keanu and co are to be believed), it’s the first promo for Peter Berg’s adaptation of the classic board game Battleship. You can have it ping your web radar below.

Taylor Kitsch – who, with his military scrub haircut looks disturbingly like a slightly less muscular Channing Tatum – stars as Hopper, a naval officer on the USS John Paul Jones. He’s been a rising star of the navy, but he’s suddenly not quite so favoured. Part of it has to do with him dating (and looking to marry) the daughter of Liam Neeson’s Admiral Shane.

Still, there are bigger things to worry about – on a routine set of exercises, the ship’s crew encounters a mystery object floating in the ocean. Hopper is dispatched to investigate and makes the fatal sci-fi movie mistake of touching the thing. Cue a signal racing off into the stars and the surfacing of some decidedly warlike alien craft that proceed to attack the fleet.

From the looks of this, Battleship will be big, silly, full of explosions and lots of people shouting. Which could be A Good Thing given that it’s really not trying to be anything more than that…

With Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna also in the cast, the film will dock at our cinemas on April 20 next year.

Another Awesome Muppets Poster Arrives

Another Awesome Muppets Poster Arrives
Hey, look, the whole gang is here!

Source: Fandango

Previous Muppets posters that have seen the light of your computer monitor have been a touch unsettling they're walking? But why? And how? or slightly lacking in the fitting-everyone-in department, but this one, oh my, this one's got the lot, and not a pair of Muppet legs in sight.

Oh, wait, there some are. Still a bit weird, sorry you guys – we know you're coming down to Big Screen to be all kinds of awesome and such, but legs? On a Muppet called Walter dressed like Jason Segel? Makes us feel funny.

Anyway, that doesn't detract from the brilliance of the poster, which manages to cram in – almost literally – all your favourites, from The Swedish Chef to Statler and Waldorf.

Click on the image above a better look at the poster on Fandango.

Oh, and if you're interested in the plot, well then, the plot sees the Muppets reassembled by Kermit when the world's biggest Muppets fan, Walter, uncovers a devilish plot by oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to destroy the Muppet Theatre and drill below it for oil. Helping the furry friends out are Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams), who plan a telethon to bag $10 million and save the day. Here's hoping it works! Huzzah!

The US will see The Muppets in action come November – bad news for us Brits, as The Muppets opens in the UK on February 17, 2012.

Simon Pegg's Secret Project Announced

Simon Pegg's Secret Project Announced

He has A Fantastic Fear Of Everything

Simon Pegg's Secret Project Announced

It seems strange to be talking about Simon Pegg in Comic-Con month without mentioning Comic-Con - and, in fairness, we don't seem to have managed it very well here. This Pegg news has nothing to do with Star Trek 2 but it's definitely intriguing in its own right, thanks in part to his Twitter tease over the past few weeks.

The cat and the bag have officially parted company. Pegg is playing a children's-author-turned-crime-writer in British indie A Fantastic Fear Of Everything. Pegg's novelist, Jack, becomes so unhinged by his research into gruesome Victorian crimes that a big Hollywood break spins into a hideous, paranoid nightmare. According to the synopsis: "Jack is forced to confront his worst demons; among them his love life, his laundry and the origin of all fear."

It's pitched as a 'psycho-comedy' and sounds like it'll be somewhere at the Young Poisoner's Handbook end of the black comedy spectrum. Aside from that fantastic name, it's notable for boasting not one but two directors with musical pedigree: one-time Radiohead promo creator, Chris Hopewell, and ex-Kula Shaker Crispian Mills. Mills, of course, has seriously impressive movie DNA flowing through those tie-dyed veins too: his grandfather was Sir John Mills and his mum is Hayley Mills.

As Pegg recently told Slate: "It’s a really odd but brilliant script... just a little low-budget British film but I’m very excited about it.”

A Fantastic Fear Of Everything
is produced by Keel Films with extra financing - and studio space - provided by the Pinewood Group. Universal have picked up European distribution rights. Expect to see it on our screens sometime next year.

Ryan Reynolds: 'Green Lantern' Berlin Premiere!

Ryan Reynolds suits up for the German premiere of his new movie, Green Lantern, on Monday (July 25) at CineStar in Berlin, Germany.

The 34-year-old Canadian actor was joined by his co-star Peter Sarsgaard to celebrate the movie’s opening.

Late last week, Ryan and Peter attended the Madrid opening of the film.

Ryan’s next film is The Change-Up, which opens next month. David Dobkin, the film’s director, recently told USA Today, “He’s a sweet kid and a good guy. Being sexiest man alive — I’m sure it’s humbling – but he’s someone who would more likely blush at that kind of attention than be looking for it.”
